Jelly Bean Media developed Gallery Pro software to meet the requirements of studio based fast turnaround continuing drama (soaps), where speed and efficiency are vital. Gallery Pro meets the exacting requirements of studio gallery operators and creatives by offering complete control of naming, recording and playback operations when using Avid FastServe. It uses templates to configure and name takes for up to 18 ingest channels simultaneously. Using Gallery Pro, recording and playback review of multiple channels in sync becomes a simple process.


Gallery Pro automates and streamlines the creation and organisation of recordings ready for post production. Group Clips are created that combine camera angles automatically. Gallery Pro also monitors the shot selection made on the vision mixer/switcher and uses the data to create matching Avid Media Composer Sequences that reference the Group Clips. Gallery Pro's unique Group Clip and Sequence creation process works standalone or integrates with Avid Interplay. Master Clips, Group Clips and corresponding Media Composer Sequence (edit) are written as files or checked into the Interplay Production Asset Manager.


For customers with Avid Airspeed ingest servers, Jelly Bean Media can still supply ISOGroup which has a similar feature set to the Gallery Pro software which replaces it.


Gallery software is available with a variety of options based on the number of channels being controlled and other features. A version is available called Gallery Lite with all the comprehensive server control features but without the post production integration.

Multiple Channel Control





Gallery Pro software offers complete control of the naming, recording and playback process with Avid FastServe ingest servers. It uses templates to configure and name takes, controlling up to 18 channels simultaneously. Control of record and sync playback review of multiple channels is standard.​



Templates





Gallery Pro uses templates to manage the recording process and automate what would otherwise be repetitive manual set up and naming operations. A key time saving feature is the automatic numbering of successive “takes” of the same scene.

Templates also characterise these details of the recording:

  • which of the available sources are used for the recording
  • details of the assets that will be created including the way in which the recordings and resulting master clips are identified
  • Interplay check-in location


Playback Review





Gallery software offers the ability to review any takes by playing back all the clips (camera angles) in the recording simultaneously. Such a review is frequently used to confirm coverage or check talent performances.


An additional option enables the browse and playback of any of the clips currently available on the server.



Vision Switcher/Mixer Tally Capture





Gallery Pro uses information from the vision switcher to create the cuts that are added to the final sequence. To capture this crosspoint data a number of different sources are supported:

  • Contact Closure or GPI
  • Direct tally data from supported Grass Valley and Sony switchers
  • TSL TallyMan UMD (Under Monitor Display) protocol


Group Clip & Sequence Creation





Gallery Pro generates an Avid Group Clip and an edited sequence that references the Group. The cut points in the sequence are based on the external source selection data, typically from the capture of vision switcher tally or crosspoint data.



Interplay Mode





When Interplay mode is selected the Avid FastServe automatically checks the master clips into Interplay from where they are retrieved by Gallery Pro as part of the Group Clip creation process. The resulting Group Clip and Sequence are checked into Interplay as the final stage of that process.



Standalone Mode





When standalone mode is configured the master clips are accessed directly from the AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) files that are created by the server during the recording. The group clip and sequence are also created as AAF files and published to the same folder that contains the master clip files.

Gallery Pro +
18 Channel Upgrade



This option increases from the standard 9 channels to the ability to control of up to 18 channels. One-click sync playback review of 18 channel recorded takes is supported. Gallery Pro + will also create Avid Media Composer Sequences and MultiGroup Clips referencing up to 18 sources.



Independent Clip Playback



This option is available for Gallery to extend the playback review function (which allows recent recordings to be reviewed in the studio gallery) to include playback of any clip stored on an Avid FastServe server.


Common Templates



This option allows the templates that manage the recording process and define key metadata such as clip and sequence naming together with check-in locations to be carried out at a central, offline location. Templates can be prepared in advance for later use.



Markers



This is a popular option, allowing you to add customised buttons to the recording control interface - for example Boom in Shot, Check Audio, Noises Off. A click on the button allows the recording operator to add the custom text to a marker in the Avid Media Composer Timeline.



Backup Recordings



With Backup Recording enabled, Gallery Pro can control a second recorder to create a back-up in parallel with the main recordings. Currently this functionality supports the Ross Trio server
